The world famous Waterford Wedgewood pottery manufacturing company, that became a victim of the credit crunch in January when it was put into administration, has been bought by the US private equity firm KPS Capital Partners.
The news is particularly disappointing for two of the Wedgewood family members, cousins Tom D Wedgewood and Tom R Wedgewood, descendants of founder Joshua Wedgewood had hoped that their bid for the business would have been successful in keeping production at the plant in Stoke on Trent.
The cousins are obviously disappointed by the decision from the administrators and issued the following statement;
“We are, and always will be, passionate about retaining and rebuilding the reputation of Stoke-on-Trent as the centre of the world’s fine bone china industry and we will vigorously pursue any and all avenues to ensure this vision for the future. We are not disheartened by this setback and will continue our fight to maintain and grow the unique skills built up over generations in this city.”
