The Sunday Times has reported that mobile phone groups Vodafone and O2 have both tabled bids believed to be in the region of £3.5bn, to purchase the T-Mobile UK business from Deutsche Telecom.
T-Mobile is currently the fourth largest mobile operator in the UK with a fifteen percent share of the market, equating to a 16.6million customer base. The biggest operator in the UK is O2 with 27% share followed by Vodafone with 25% and then Orange with 22%.
Although the French Telecom owned Orange are believed to be considering a bid of their own for the T-Mobile business, neither they or rivals O2 and Vodafone have made any comment on the report.
A decision from T-Mobile is expected within the coming weeks, a successful bid from either O2, Vodafone or Orange would make them the biggest mobile operator in the UK.
