Ryanair Cuts Aircraft At Stanstead

John Williams - Thursday 17.07.08, 15:15pm

Ryanair will cut its aircraft flying from London’s Stanstead airport from 40 to 28 and suspend operations at seven European airports, because of high fuel costs and airport charges.

The cut price Irish airline will also reduce it’s flights from Stanstead by 14% to 1,600. This is a repeat of last years winter season for Ryanair who reduce their activities from October to March.

Ryanair will cancel services to seven European airports from November 4th to December 19th and have warned of further disruptions if those airports do not discount their charges for low demand periods. The seven destinations affected are Basel, Budapest, Krakow, Rzeszow, Palma, Valencia and Salzburg.

Michael O’Leary chief executive at Ryanair warned just last month that high fuel prices would drive “crappy competitors” out of the business.

Today he said: “High airport charges and the massive increases which we face in fuel prices, makes it more profitable for Ryanair to ground aircraft rather than fly them at these airports during this period.”
