The Honda UK plant in Swindon has announced further suspension of production, due to the global slowdown and reduced interest in demand for new cars. The company had announced in November 2008 that it would close the factory for two months from the end of January 2009.
The closure will now increase to four months from 1st February to the end of May. The company has said that the shutdown would ensure the jobs of it’s 4200 workforce, who will be retained on around an average of 80% pay, although the workers will owe that time to Honda when the factory re-opens.
No redundancies will take place at present and there are no plans to do so in the future say the Honda management who have invested 1.38billionĀ pounds in the Swindon manufacturing plant.
